Ever since I can remember I have always felt a true happiness from creating and expressing myself through various mediums. I started playing piano, and drums when I was quite young, and eventually began to love the more physical arts. In high school and even when I was at community college it was hard for me to choose a major since I felt excited and compelled to be good at multiple things. After years of back and forth, I finally transfered to SPU and decided to join the Visual Communication program. Things started to click for me almost immediately! My strengths as a designer allow me to bring the abstract to the real, and allow for messages to be understood by a large amount of people. In conjunction with my love for audio, and photo and have become quite passionate over the last few years at videography as well. I have worked other jobs in my life so far, but I am truly excited to be able to use my unique creative skills and hopefuly make my mark on this planet. Getting to know my vis com classmates and learn from them has been a wonderful experience and I am so gald that I made the decision I did. This journey of mine has been one of success and also confusion, but now I feel as though I can become the best possible version of myself that I have always imagined.

For this project I decided to combine my love for cinema and design to make a magazine that would be able to incorporate both. Through the process I grew a deeper understanding of the grid, my illustrative style and how to use typography and hierarchy to convey meaning. I enjoyed taking something like movies, something I'm passionate about and incorporating it into my design work.

After choosing a real world problem, for this project I used numbers and data graphics to showcase a rapidly growing problem in not only our country but other parts of the world. Looking at the recidivism rates and how different countries handle it differently allowed for me to use my design skills to showcase the stark differences.
