Charlie Hill

Hi my name is Charlie. I like wildflower hikes, picnics at sunset and parmesan cheese. My full name is Emma Charlotte, but my brother shortened it to Charlie when I was a baby. I was born in Corvallis, Oregon, the 4th of five kids in my family. I grew up playing outside, working in the garden and doing all kinds of art projects with my mom. In high school, I started taking art classes for the first time and found it relaxing and enjoyable to be creative. As a member of the high school class of 2020, I graduated abruptly due to the pandemic. My high school experiences and track season came to an ubrupt end. With lots of time on my hands, I pivoted to learning how to design websites and redesigned sites for several local companies. That sparked my interest in visual communications, and an academic and sports scholarship for pole vault brought me to SPU. My future goals? I realized that I love UX Writing and Information Design and I hope to do something in either of those fields after I graduate.

"My favorite SPAC memory is the accidental late night congregations in the art center the night before a big assignment is due."
Infographic

For this project, I researched a major problem and visually displayed the data for easy audience understanding. I focused on the stark differences between US and Norwegian prison systems, particularly recidivism rates. I created an infographic comparing these systems, using symbols and icons to effectively highlight the failures of the US prison system.

Meal Plan Brochure

During my internship with SPU's Dining Services, working for Sodexo, I created an informational brochure for students. It provided detailed information about meal plans, on-campus dining locations, and frequently asked questions. I organized and structured a large amount of content into a small, legible, and visually appealing layout.
